Garnet (from the Latin “granatus”, meaning grain) refers to a group of minerals with crystalline habit consisting of dodecahedron and trapezohedron shapes. The various garnet varieties may incorporate multiple chemical elements in their structure, especially calcium, magnesium, aluminium, ferro2 + + ferro3, chromium, manganese and titanium. The brightness varies from vitreous to resin and may be transparent or opaque, depending on the presence of inclusions.
